About Wuhan University
Basic information and contact details of Wuhan University
Wuhan University is located in Wuhan, Hubei, China, and is run by the Ministry of Education. Famed for its beautiful campus, it boasts Luojia Hill, the picturesque East Lake, and lush cherry blossom trees, ranking among the most beautiful universities in China.
Founded in 1893 and approved by the Qing Government, the university was eventually one of China’s first national institutions when it was renamed National Wuhan University in 1928. It had grown to provide courses of study in six major fields by 1946: liberal arts, law, science, engineering, agriculture, and medicine.
In 2000, Wuhan University was reorganized by combining four units: original Wuhan University, Wuhan University of Hydraulic and Electrical Engineering, Wuhan Technical University of Surveying and Mapping, and Hubei Medical University.
The university currently consists of 37 schools and departments, offering more than 120 undergraduate programs, over 300 graduate programs, and approximately 200 doctoral programs—some of which are offered in English. The university has also established robust international connections, cooperating with hundreds of universities globally through research collaborations and student exchange programs.
