About the University of Navarra
Brief information and contact details of the University of Navarra
Located in Pamplona, Spain, the University of Navarra is one of Spain’s leading universities, renowned for its teaching and research excellence. It’s a non-profit, private institution with a distinct Catholic character.
Established in 1952 by Josemaría Escrivá de Balaguer, the founder of Opus Dei, the university was founded to advance the values of the movement. It currently has approximately 11,000 students, of which some 8,700 are undergraduates, distributed across four campuses in northeastern Spain.
What started as a law school has now evolved into a full-fledged institution with 14 faculties, two university schools, 17 institutes, a business school, and a variety of other centers. The university has more than 120 degree programs, all of which include theology.
Navarra has also a range of activities available to anyone in the university community interested in learning about Jesus Christ, the Catholic Church, or spirituality from chaplains in a religious freedom-friendly environment.
In addition, the university has a teaching hospital that is manned by approximately 2,000 healthcare practitioners, who treat more than 100,000 patients every year. The hospital is also a leader in medical research with areas of specialization including oncology, neuroscience, cardiovascular sciences, gene therapy, and hepatology.
Some of its distinguished graduates are philosopher Leonardo Polo, physicist Pedro Miguel Etxenique, and UK transport secretary Ruth Kelly.
The mission of the university is the pursuit of truth, student academic and personal development, research and healthcare advancement, and faculty support development—all in the spirit of service and outreach.
